Karachi Traffic Affected as MWM Protests Continue Over Parachinar Issue
Protests led by the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) over the ongoing crisis in Parachinar, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, have caused major traffic problems in Karachi.
The sit-ins, which started on Thursday, continued into Friday, blocking key roads and creating trouble for commuters during the busy morning hours.
The crisis in Parachinar has already claimed over 130 lives, with reports suggesting that more than 100 children have died due to a lack of medicines. However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif denied these reports, calling them baseless.
In Karachi, the protests have led to road closures in many areas. MA Jinnah Road at Numaish Chowrangi is blocked, and traffic is being redirected through routes like Secretariat Chowrangi and Guru Mandir to Soldier Bazaar.
Other impacted areas include Abu Al Hasan Isphahani Road, which connects to the Super Highway. Traffic there is being diverted through Paradise Bakery towards Fariya Chowk.
At Five Star Chowrangi, road closures have caused vehicles to use the service road instead. Parts of Sharea Faisal, especially the stretch between Star Gate and Malir, are also closed, with traffic diverted to Drigh Road and Rashid Minhas Road.
The National Highway near Malir 15 Bridge heading towards Quaidabad is blocked too. Traffic is being rerouted from Malir Halt to Model Colony and other routes such as Manzil Pump to Younus Chowrangi and Daud Chowrangi to the Industrial Area.
Authorities have asked commuters to take alternative routes as the protests have made an already tough traffic situation worse.
Speaking to protesters at Numaish Chowrangi on Thursday, MWM leader Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi urged the government to take action and restore peace in Kurram, particularly in Parachinar. He highlighted the suffering of families in the area, who are struggling without basic necessities and support.
