
Karachi Traffic Police Collected Rs. 850 Million in Fines From Citizens in 2024
In 2024, Karachi residents paid a total of Rs. 850 million in traffic fines, as reported by the traffic police. Around 1.157 million challans were issued throughout the year for various traffic violations.
The highest number of fines were issued for vehicle number plate violations, with 221,000 challans generating Rs. 119.3 million in penalties. Signal jumping ranked second, with 196,000 challans resulting in fines worth Rs. 124.9 million.
Other significant violations included overloading, leading to 200,000 challans and fines of Rs. 103.1 million, and no-parking offenses, which accounted for 130,000 challans and Rs. 115.7 million in penalties. One-way and wrong-way driving were also common, with 91,000 challans and Rs. 20.2 million in fines.
Motorcyclists were major contributors to the fines, with 84,000 challans issued for riding without helmets, resulting in penalties of Rs. 42.4 million. Additional fines included Rs. 53.1 million for fancy number plates, Rs. 37.5 million for obstructing traffic, and Rs. 10.7 million for vehicles without speedometers.
