Elon Musk’s Starlink Applies for License in Pakistan
Starlink Pakistan: Expanding Satellite Internet Services
The State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, recently informed the National Assembly about exciting developments in Pakistan’s tech sector. Two international companies, Elon Musk’s Starlink Internet Services Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. and the Chinese satellite firm Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology, have applied for licenses to operate in Pakistan.
Licensing Process in Pakistan
The minister explained that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) only processes license applications from companies registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). This means that while international companies cannot apply directly, they can register locally with SECP to become eligible. Both Starlink Pakistan and Shanghai Spacecom are following this framework to expand their satellite-based internet services in the country.
