Ghee and Cooking Oil Prices Surge Nationwide in Pakistan

The prices of essential kitchen items, including banaspati ghee and cooking oil, have surged by up to 20% over the last two months, intensifying the financial burden on households across Pakistan. This increase comes despite government assertions of a decline in inflation, raising concerns among citizens already grappling with high living expenses.

Recent reports reveal that the price of ghee has climbed by Rs30 to Rs120 per kilogram in different cities, while cooking oil prices have spiked by Rs50 to Rs150 per litre. Premium-grade ‘A’ quality ghee is now being sold for Rs505 to Rs559 per kilogram, whereas mid-range ‘B’ quality ghee costs between Rs440 and Rs500 per kilogram. In Lahore and other major cities, the price of Sufi ghee has soared to Rs350 per kilogram. Similarly, cooking oil prices have seen a comparable rise, with shopkeepers blaming the increases on higher raw material costs in the international market and persistent global supply chain disruptions.
