Apple plans to enter the smart home market with a doorbell camera that uses Face ID technology
Apple’s Plans for a Face ID-Enabled Smart Doorbell
Apple is preparing to make its mark in the smart home market with a Face ID-enabled smart doorbell expected to launch in late 2025. The new device is designed to compete with popular brands like Amazon Ring and Google Nest.
Face ID and Secure Processing
The smart doorbell will use Face ID technology to unlock doors by recognizing faces. Apple has created a special wireless chip called “Proxima” to ensure all Face ID images are processed securely on the device itself.
Additionally, users will have the option to store video footage on iCloud, which could encourage more people to subscribe to Apple’s services.
Smart Lock Integration
Apple hasn’t revealed if the doorbell will work with its own smart lock system or if it will support third-party smart locks compatible with HomeKit. However, the doorbell is expected to use the Thread smart home standard, making it compatible with other smart devices in Apple’s ecosystem.
Expanding Apple’s Smart Home Products
Apple is also working on a smart home hub similar to Google Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Hub. This hub is rumored to include a 6-inch touchscreen with smart home controls and support for FaceTime calls.
Updates for Apple TV and HomePod Mini are also in development, expected to strengthen Apple’s smart home lineup.
